Staff Spotlight – Donny
How long have you been teaching Pilates/Yoga?
I have been teaching Pilates for about 4 years and Barre just 1.5 years
What has been your favorite teaching moment? I love teaching movement because it always put me in a good mood and connecting with others who enjoy it also.
What made you decide to teach Pilates/Yoga?
In 2017 I was dealing with a lot of chronic pain and was diagnosed with hEDS (Ehlers Danlos type 3 which is a connective tissue disorder). I found that my go-to exercises were not something I could physically do anymore and I was introduced to Pilates. After making Pilates a regular part of my routine I noticed I could manage my chronic pain so much better and overall I just felt better. I decided to teach because I wanted to help others that may be dealing with something like I had.
Where did you grow up?
I am born and raised in the area, I grew up in North Liberty actually when it was just a tiny little town.
What is something about you that might surprise your students?
When I was in Junior High my brother and I got lost on a mountain in Colorado (I was MIA for about 3 hours and my brother for 5 hours bc we were not that bright and decided to split up). They brought out the whole search party for us- Rangers, trail runners, dogs the whole brigade! Clearly we were found, but caused quite the scare.
Any hobbies?
Not sure if it is a considered a hobby but I love my dog walks in the morning and recently I have been enjoying making my boyfriend do mad libs with me!! I love dogs and if you are lucky when you take my virtual class one or both of them might choose to make an appearance from time to time.
