Beginning Pilates for Couch Potatoes

couch potato questions (1)If you can answer “Yes” to any of the questions this class is for you!!   In December one of my clients “tricked” her friend Diane into a Pilates Private session, and her reaction to that session was the inspiration for this class. Diane knew she needed an exercise program, but the pictures of people doing Pilates on the internet had made her decide that Pilates was not for her.   She saw young, fit women in positions that she knew her body couldn’t move into.  Her first private Pilates session changed her attitude.  Read her story here.

This 6 week course has a maximum of 6 students in each class.   You’ll feel safe, get lots of private attention, a prop bundle, and homework handouts to help you make progress between classes.  We hope you’ll wear something stretchy that makes it easy to move, but spandex is not required.    You will NOT be asked to hop, jump or dance, and you will not hear the words “feel the burn”.   This course is about introducing you to Pilates, and getting your body moving and feeling better.   If you’re nervous about being able to get down on the floor to get on and off a mat, we have raised mats to assist you.    If you’re nervous about being asked to do crunches — you’ll be excited to learn that crunches are not a Pilates exercise!  If you’re nervous that you’re too “old” to learn Pilates, we have several clients at Rivercity Pilates who are well into their 80s.  If you’re nervous because you have had or will have a hip or knee replacement, don’t worry about that.     We will show you modifications that will allow you to participate in the exercises.

Here’s a video clip of Diane’s session (filmed with her permission) that will give you an example of the type of things we will start with.

We are offering two class times for this workshop starting in February.     You can choose the Mondays at 11am class or the Saturdays at 8am class.    To register, click here!   If you’re still nervous about signing up, and would like to talk it over, please call Carey @ 319-665-2499.
