Teach Inspired Pilates Teacher Training Program

I love teaching Pilates. I love watching the difference that Pilates makes to our clients. I love being a momtrepreneur and watching our clients and teachers at Rivercity Pilates use movement to #livebetter since we opened in 2009. We’ve had a teacher training program since 2011 and I have so enjoyed helping Pilates lovers become Pilates teachers.

Then along came the pandemic and on March 17, 2020 and our governor required us to lockdown and quarantine.
I’m going to get real with you. The past two years haven’t been easy. We had to make a lot of adjustments, even having to cancel our 2020 and 2021 Pilates teacher training program. But, the great thing about challenging situations is they encourage you to grow and create new opportunities.  I am so excited to tell you about a project I’ve been contemplating for years.

Rivercity Pilates has a Pilates Teacher Training Program and it begins in January 2022!

Today we are launching the Teach Inspired Pilates Teacher Training Program at Rivercity Pilates!  In previous years at Rivercity Pilates, I’ve taught a teacher training program that was developed years ago by my mentor. It is an excellent program and I’m forever grateful that I had the opportunity to teach it. With 20 years of teaching experience and 10 years of training instructors, I found myself wanting to create my own program that could help trainees have an even better teacher training experience.

The Teach Inspired Pilates Teacher Training Program is a 12 month program  based on learning the classical Pilates method created by Joseph Pilates.   The program focuses on growing teachers who understand the method and how to adapt it to any body that they are teaching.

It is a program that prepares all of our trainees to help each unique student move better in their own body, and experience the huge difference that movement can make in their lives.

Are you over age 60?

We have a special class designed for YOU!

We are all aging.   However, how you think about aging, and how you move as you get older is yours to decide.

You know that I recommend a regular movement practice as a way to keep your body feeling as strong and mobile as you can. If you know you need to move more in your life but feel like you might need some guidance and motivation to help you do it…I have some exciting news for you!

We have a brand new small group training session on Thursday mornings at 9 am.

You’ll receive individual attention from our instructor while doing a variety of exercises (some traditional Pilates, some designed to help you build strength, some designed specifically to help improve your balance and most designed to improve your bone strength).    Everything is more fun with a small group of people with similar goals — right?

You can expect to have stronger bones, increase flexibility, improve posture, improve your balance and overall strength if you attend these sessions consistently.  The training session will include exercises done standing, it will include exercises done lying down, exercises done seated and your instructor will always help you adapt exercises to your body.

  • You’ll be a good fit for this small group training session if:
  • You are over 60 and looking for exercise to help you stay strong and flexible
  • You want to work on improving your balance
  • You need to move more in your life (ie – you spend more time sitting than you’d like to admit)
  • You like to have fun while you exercise (who doesn’t right?!!)
  • You enjoy and appreciate feedback from an instructor on how to do movements safely and most effectively in your body
  • You enjoy working with highly trained instructors, but can’t afford $85 a session for private sessions
  • You want to do everything you can to keep your bones healthy and strong
  • You are looking for something to motivate you to exercise regularly
  • You like working out with others but don’t want to be lost in a big group.
  • You love the idea of a workout customized to you!
  • You can commit to a once a week session for 4 weeks on Thursdays at 9 am

Meet Your Instructor

Nancy

Nancy (age 63),  found Rivercity Pilates in 2014 not long after she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.   The diagnosis scared her a little bit and brought her back to something she’s always known: movement is healing.

Nancy knew that she wanted to add more movement in her life to stay strong and help her body function at its best.

Nancy started as a client but soon transitioned into a teacher at the Rivercity Pilates because she knew she wanted to share the benefits of movement with others in the way her movement teachers had taught her!

Nancy teaches a customized session designed to strengthen your entire body help create balance and mobility.

Register for class!

Are you nodding your head yes?    Do you want to take control of your body and how it ages?   We only have 3 spaces available in this 4 week series  that we’re calling Pilates & More that starts Thursday, October 28.

Can Bigger Bodies do Pilates?

Carey Sadler demonstrating a Pilates exercise at Rivercity Pilates

Have you ever watched somebody doing an exercise and thought, “My body would never do that!”

You are not the only one! I bet at least a couple times a day I give people a visual example of an exercise as a way for them to learn what we are going to do and they say, “I’m not sure I can do that!”.   My response is usually, “You might be surprised, let’s just try it and see what happens.”

Guess what almost always happens? Yep, they do the exercise.   Why did their mind tell them they couldn’t do it?

My theory is that when they watched me do it they immediately thought…my body is way different from Carey’s and so I couldn’t possibly do that.

What their mind didn’t know is that as their teacher I only give an exercise to a client if I am pretty darn sure they will be successful at it.

Why am I telling you this?  I’m telling you this because so many people don’t start practicing Pilates because the only images they see of someone practicing Pilates are images of people with bodies that don’t really look like theirs.

A LOT of people are missing out on finding a way to exercise and move their body that could absolutely change their life for the better because they prejudge their ability to do that exercise method!   Myself and all of our staff at Rivercity Pilates are very passionate about sharing Pilates with EVERY body and that leads to why I’ve told you all this!

What does movement do for you?

I’m guessing if you are reading this blog you are interested in growth.  You probably are part of our community because like me you enjoy learning and you enjoy the process of empowering yourself through knowledge and understanding.

You enjoy learning techniques that help you feel better in your body and in your life. Have you ever specifically thought about your growth in your life when it comes to exercise and movement?

Growth when it comes to how you use movement in your life can come in a lot of different ways but here’s just a short list of ways I’ve seen growth in my own life and in the lives of so many of our community:

  • Just plain moving more daily,   This includes more steps, more stretches, more movement breaks throughout your day.
  • Exercise has become a habit that you don’t even question in your life, not a fad that you start and stop.
  • Exercise is not punishment or something you do because you feel like you ate too much of something or that you ate the wrong thing
  • Being mindful of your alignment and posture in your daily life
  • Increased mobility (things like tying your shoes and reaching for things on a high shelf are easier!)
  • Increased strength
  • Knowing how to use movement and even self massage techniques to help your body feel better when you have achiness or tightness
  • You actually miss your “exercise time” if you don’t do it

Challenge for you!

When you are done, look at the list and celebrate how far you’ve come!

Need help? One of our students shared her list!

One of my favorite things…

I wish a had a dollar for every time a client says to me…”you know you were in my head the other day ago!”

I love hearing stories from clients about how they were going about their life and suddenly they heard my words in their head encouraging them to do things like pay attention to their foot and leg alignment, notice their posture or even just to move more throughout their day!

I think I love it because when I hear them say things like that I know that not only am I helping these clients stay motivated to move their bodies regularly so they feel better, I’m also teaching them how to navigate life in a different way, in a way that helps them feel empowered about their health and inspired to continuing working on it, even if I’m not around.

I also love it because I know that most of us have way too many negative, non encouraging thoughts run through our mind on a regular basis and I do believe that adding people into your life who encourage you, who inspire you to be a better person and who really believe in you can be life changing.

Empower your body ~ Inspire your life

This is our studio mission and something that all of our instructors focus on.  At Rivercity Pilates we take time to get to know you, to learn your goals, and to tailor each of our semi private or private sessions to help you reach those goals!    I remember a client telling me that she didn’t like the “big box gym” down the road, because although the memberships were less expensive, she never knew if she was doing things right, or what she needed to do to help her reach her goals!

If you are needing someone to help you set and reach movement goals, then you really should get to know Rachel and Shannon a little better and snag one of their open session spots.

Our teachers are highly educated in teaching movement, but in my opinion that is not their biggest gift.

Beyond being able to teach movement these women are the kindest, most encouraging people I know!
