New Strength Training Sessions In-Studio!

At the beginning of the year I was checking in with all of our Rivercity Pilates staff to see if they had any ideas about new offerings for 2023 and oh I wish you could have been a fly on the wall for some of the coversations I had!

I was reminded how grateful I am to have such an amazing, talented passionate group of teachers at RCP who want more than anything to share their insight and knowledge with others so they can help others live their best life.

A quick example of this was my conversation with Shannon.  She said I would really love to offer small group strength training sessions if you think it would work?

The older I get the more I have realized the absolute necessity of regular strength training to my movement practice.   I was looking at a statistic that said 50% of women over 50 will break a bone due to osteoporosis! Many of those women end up not being able to go back to their normal life activities because of the injury!

I would love to be able to offer small group strength training simply using hand weights, bands, the magic circle and just body weight exercises.

I just want to help women realize that they can easily add in strength training to their life and it can make a big difference in how how they feel and function as they age!”
Shannon, Rivercity Pilates Instructor

So needless to say…Shannon is going to be offering small group strength training twice a week starting in February!

These sessions will meet on Tuesdays at 6 pm and Saturdays at 10 am.  Sessions will be priced the same as our small group Pilates Mat and small group Yoga sessions.

You can schedule any of these sessions in Mindbody under appointments or simply email us and we can schedule you!

New In Studio Mat Sessions

Many of you have told us how much you miss Pilates Mat Classes in the studio!

You have told us how much you enjoy:

  • the individual guidance from your teacher,
  • the atmosphere of a group experience and
  • getting to play with all the fun props we have at the studio!

We are excited to share with you that Rachel and Shannon are each adding in a weekly in-studio Small Group Mat session to their schedule!

Our Mat group sessions have a different pricing structure than Pilates Equipment based sessions. We have found we are able to allow 5 participants per session and still give everyone lots of space in the studio.

Unlike our old Mat Classes pre-pandemic, these sessions must be booked as an appointment, not from our class schedule.

Anything we called a class on our schedule is virtual.  You can schedule Pilates Mat sessions in Mindbody by going to appointments, choosing Pilates Mat Small groups session and requesting the session time or you can always simply email us and we’ll schedule you!!

Please note: You do not have to sign up for a session every week and can simply sign up for the sessions that work for your schedule.  You can cancel a session with 24 hours notice with no charge.

If you plan on attending weekly and want to make sure you have a spot we always suggest having us schedule you on going and then you can always let us know by email or by canceling in Mindbody which sessions you can’t make.

We expect these sessions to fill and we will keep a waitlist to contact for when there are openings! If the session has filled and you want to be on the waitlist please just email us and let us know!

How do I join an In-Studio Group Session?

Can I schedule myself for a group session even if I don’t attend every week? YES!!

We have a variety of “open” small groups that happen each week at the studio. A lot of our clients do attend regularly and simply schedule ahead to reserve their spot.

Small groups are limited to 4 participants. Yet we often have a spot open in a group and you can request to join the session if there is an open spot in our Mindbody system.  This option is available in Mindbody (on the appointments tab) up until 2 hours before a session.

After you request a session we will approve your request and send you a confirmation email to let you know that your spot is reserved.

Here’s a quick list of our weekly “open” groups that may have an opening:

  • Monday 11 am with Shelley Mockler
  • Monday 6 pm with Kimberly Burke
  • Tuesday 6:30 am with Carey Sadler
  • Tuesday 10:30 am with Carey Sadler
  • Tuesday 6 pm with Shannon Ottoson
  • Wednesday 6:30 pm  with Curtis Strahan (Pilates Mat session)
  • Thursday 10 am with Nancy Kaff (Barre & Pilates Mat Session)
  • Thursday 5:30 pm with Rachel Piper
  • Friday 6:30 am with Carey Sadler
  • Friday 10 am with Carey Sadler
  • Sunday 8:15 am with Rachel Piper

What will I be doing in these small groups?

Each session is designed to be unique to the participants who attend. Your Pilates teacher will design an individualized session using the Pilates equipment and props. Sessions are designed to help you build strength and mobility in a safe effective workout.  Sessions that are focused on Barre and Pilates Mat are noted above.

Can I join a group if I’m brand new?

If you are new to the studio and haven’t practiced Pilates with us we ask that you sign up for a complimentary private session before joining a group session.  We want to make sure we get to know you, so we can design a session that best fits your needs!

Is a Pilates studio full of “exercise people” ?

At Rivercity Pilates, most of our clients consider themselves non-exercise people!

Are you an exercise person?  I define an “exercise person” as a person who naturally enjoys movement and adds it into their life on a regular basis.  You know….the person who likes to train for a race, maybe even conquered a marathon or a 50 mile bike ride. Those people that ride their bike to work everyday, walk their dog daily rain or shine and maybe even have a daily workout routine. Maybe it’s the person who is always posting pictures of their favorite scene on their bike ride or run on Facebook and checking into their gym on Facebook because they loved their workout so much…

If you are not an “exercise person” I have some great news for you……many of our our regular clients at the studio are not either.  We definitely have some “exercise people” at our studio who are very active doing things like running, cycling, swimming, etc. in their life.  These people will use Pilates, Barre or Yoga to cross train their bodies and help keep them balanced.  What we find is that because so many “exercise people” are naturally good at working out on their own they don’t really make up the bulk of our regulars at the studio.

Most of our regulars at the studio would probably not call themselves “exercise people”.  In fact, this is the very reason they sign up for regular classes…they know that if they were to just try to exercise on their own…they probably wouldn’t do it!  Most of our “non exercise people” regulars tell us they love that all they have to do is sign up for a class and show up.  They know and trust that if they can get here our instructors will take them through a great, safe workout in their body and they will feel amazing afterwards.  They love the accountability that is created when they attend regularly and their instructor gets to know them and their goals.  They love that they create friendships with other “non exercise people” and those friendships inspire them to keep showing up!

If worrying about being in a room full of “exercise people” was one of the reasons you’ve been putting off trying Pilates.…cross that excuse off your list and contact us today to schedule your complimentary one on one session to get introduced to Pilates and the studio!!
